About Löwenbräu
Löwenbräu has deep roots in Munich’s brewing tradition. The first mention of a brewery at its historic location dates back centuries. Over time, it grew into the city's largest brewery, driven by innovation and craftsmanship.
As demand increased, the brewery relocated and expanded, adopting modern brewing techniques while maintaining its commitment to quality. It became a pioneer in strong beer production and played a key role in shaping Munich’s beer culture.
Löwenbräu has been at the forefront of brewing excellence, winning international awards and achieving milestones in production. It was among the first Munich breweries to surpass a million hectoliters in annual output.
Despite the challenges of war and economic shifts, Löwenbräu adapted by focusing on quality and expanding its global presence. The brand reintroduced its strong beers post-war and embraced international markets.
Through exports and licensing agreements, Löwenbräu became available worldwide while adhering to the strict German Purity Law. Today, it is recognized as a global symbol of Bavarian brewing tradition.
To remain competitive in a globalized market, Löwenbräu merged with Spaten and later joined AB InBev, ensuring its continued growth while preserving its heritage.
